Dark-winged Blood Bee
A medium-sized blood bee (8–11 mm) with a black head and thorax, red abdomen, and conspicuously dark-tinted wings. It is a cleptoparasite of larger Halictus and Lasioglossum species, especially Halictus rubicundus. Females search for host nests in open habitats with bare ground. In Switzerland it is widespread in warm open habitats from lowlands to montane elevations. Females fly from April to September, males from July to September. Swiss Red List: Least Concern (LC).
