Common Leafcutter Bee
A medium-sized leafcutter bee (9–12 mm) with a black body, dense yellowish-brown hair on the thorax, and a bright orange ventral scopa in females. It cuts circular pieces from leaves of roses, birches, and other plants to line its nest cavities. It nests in pre-existing cavities in dead wood, hollow stems, and bee hotels. In Switzerland it is widespread in gardens, parks, and settlements from lowlands to montane elevations. Swiss Red List: Least Concern (LC).
