Bombus bohemicus
Gypsy Cuckoo Bee
A cuckoo bumblebee that parasitises nests of the Bombus lucorum complex. It has no pollen-collecting apparatus and produces no workers; the female invades a host nest, kills the resident queen, and forces host workers to rear her offspring. It resembles its host but has a stouter body, darker wings, and more extensive yellow bands. In Switzerland it is common and widespread from lowlands to alpine elevations. Swiss Red List: Least Concern (LC).
