Northern Colletes

A medium-sized plasterer bee with narrow greyish-white abdominal bands and distinctive tawny-brown hairs on the thorax. The first tergite is notably shiny and sparsely punctate. It nests in aggregations in sandy soils in warm, dry locations. In Switzerland it occurs in the Alps in montane to alpine meadows, foraging mainly on umbellifers and Asteraceae. Swiss Red List: Vulnerable (VU).
