Hylaeus alpinus
Alpine Yellow-face Bee
A small high-altitude masked bee (5–7 mm) found in the Swiss Alps, adapted to cold mountain conditions. It nests in cavities in dead wood or plant stems and carries pollen internally. Its flight period is short, from June to August, timed with the brief alpine summer. It visits a range of alpine flowers and is typically found above 1500 m elevation. Swiss Red List: Least Concern (LC).
