Hairy-saddled Colletes
A medium-sized plasterer bee (9-11 mm) with dense brownish hairs on the thorax and unusually broad, felt-like white hair bands on the abdomen. It is oligolectic on Asteraceae, particularly tansy (Tanacetum vulgare) and yarrow (Achillea millefolium). It nests in aggregations in sandy soils in warm, dry locations. In Switzerland it is found in ruderal areas, sand pits, and dry meadows in the lowlands and valleys. Swiss Red List: Endangered (EN).
