Bombus humilis
Brown-banded Carder Bee
A medium-sized carder bee with a distinctive broad dark brown band across the front of the abdomen, though colouration is highly variable. The thorax is typically yellow-orange on top with beige flanks. It has a long tongue and favours deep flowers like clover and vetches. It nests above ground in grass tussocks and is found across Switzerland in species-rich meadows and grasslands. Swiss Red List: Least Concern (LC).
