Tree Bumblebee

A distinctive bumblebee with a ginger-brown thorax, black abdomen, and white tail. It nests exclusively above ground in cavities such as old bird nests, tree holes, roof spaces, and nest boxes, often in urban settings. Colonies can reach 400 workers. It is a common and expanding species in Switzerland, found from lowland gardens up to montane elevations, visiting a wide range of flowers. Swiss Red List: Least Concern (LC).
