Bombus jonellus

Heath Bumblebee

A small bumblebee with three yellow bands and a white tail, closely resembling the Garden Bumblebee but smaller and with a shorter tongue. It prefers heathland, moorland, and mountain habitats, foraging on heathers, bilberry, and Vaccinium species. It nests above ground in old bird nests, under moss, or in grass tussocks. In Switzerland it occurs locally in alpine and subalpine regions as well as moorland areas. Swiss Red List: Least Concern (LC).
