Hylaeus confusus
Confusing Yellow-face Bee
A small yellow-face bee with a black body and white facial markings, very similar to Hylaeus communis but distinguished by details of the male genitalia and the shape of the facial mask. It nests in hollow stems and cavities in dead wood and is widespread in Switzerland from lowlands to montane elevations. A generalist forager visiting a wide range of wildflowers, it is common in gardens, meadows, and forest edges. Flight period from May to September with one generation per year. Swiss Red List: Least Concern (LC).
