Hylaeus variegatus
Variegated Yellow-face Bee
A small yellow-face bee with white facial markings and distinctive pale whitish-yellow spots on the pronotal lobes. Females have two longitudinal yellow stripes on the clypeus; males have a full white face mask. It nests in hollow stems and beetle borings in dead wood. In Switzerland it occurs in warm, dry habitats such as vineyards, dry meadows, and ruderal sites, mainly in lowland valleys including the Valais and Ticino. Swiss Red List: Vulnerable (VU).
